Shan Hai Jing? literally translated to mean look of the Mountain and the Sea is an exhibition of wood-block prints and ink paintings of monsters by print-maker, Low Khay Hooi, developed over a period of 2 years. The prints, on rice paper and painted over with coloured-ink washes, are one-of-a-kind, single edition prints. Low takes the topographical maps of Malaysia as his starting point. He extracts shapes from these maps as found in school text-books and develops them into imaginary hybrid monsters that affect the weather, bring disease, protect or threaten the population of the area.

In this exhibition, Low presents his prints like pages from an imaginary anthropologist log-book, with each print introducing one or two of his monsters associated with a town or region in Malaysia. Accompanying the images, is Chinese text providing an explanation of the mythical significance of these fantasy creatures to their environment. The format loosely refers to that of Chinese almanacs and early anthropological texts.

For Low, these prints are a fun and enjoyable strategy for him to develop a body of imagery that will form the visual vocabulary for his future work. For the viewer, they recall a school child wild imagination at work in the form of doodles made during the long hours of boredom in the classroom.
This exhibition will be his first solo exhibition. Shan Hai Jing will be on exhibit at Reka Art Space from 24 May 2007 to 23 June 2007.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

这是我们在母亲节做的小礼物, 我们叫它"蝴蝶妈妈和毛毛虫宝宝"?~名字好像太长了? 还是叫"蝴蝶+毛虫贺卡"?~这名又怪怪地? 算了, 不管它叫什么, 妈妈喜欢就好了(哈!但小朋友好像更喜欢~) 上回, 恩妮送了我一只用tissue做的, 可以爬动的毛毛虫, 实在是太可爱了, 当时就想到母亲节让小朋友制作这个小手工, 大家一定会喜欢的! 果然, 小朋友爱不释手, 但有些妈妈看到毛毛虫在动时, 竟大叫"geli"哈~也太幽默了吧? 还好我们也做了漂亮的蝴蝶卡, 那就好玩的毛毛虫归小朋友, 美丽的蝴蝶送妈妈吧.

Ilana draws on sand, using only her fingers. As she weaves together sand, lighting and music, Ilana creates incredible three dimensional vistas they play out in perfect time with the musical accompaniment, Indeed, it is difficult to decide if the music accompanies the work of art, or vice versa Ilana's fingers dance in the sand on the glass to the music, the resulting aesthetic dynamic is powerful and moving.

写生~我的水瓶

续鞋子写生后的一课~水瓶写生。为了不让小朋友觉得枯燥，所以在画完水瓶后，老师便开始讲故事:"很久以前，在一个小人国里，住了好多的小小人....这一年，他们住的国家不知何故突然发生了旱灾，河流都干枯了，人民快要渴死了....所以他们决定选出一批勇士，前往巨人国借水....到了巨人国，他们才发现原来在这里的东西全都是非常巨大的，那他们要如何取得食水？要怎样才能把水带回自己的国家呢？....那就请小朋友帮他们想想法子吧。。。

发现这类故事画，3年级以上的小朋友都比较不感兴趣（也许是老师编的故事不够生动吧）~所以就让他们纯写生啰:P
